SAN DIEGO (AP) Third baseman Yangervis Solarte agreed to a $7.5 million, two-year contract with San Diego that includes club options for the 2019 and 2020 seasons, one of four players to avoid arbitration with the Padres,
Solarte had a career season in 2016, hitting .286 with 15 home runs and 71 RBIs. He gets a $250,000 signing bonus and salaries of $2.5 million this year and $4 million in 2018. The Padres have a $5.5 million option for 2019 with a $750,000 buyout, and if that is exercised the Padres have an $8 million option for 2020 with a $750,000 buyout.
San Diego also agreed to terms Friday with left-handed starter Christian Friedrich ($1.79 million) and relievers Brandon Maurer ($1.9 million) and Brad Hand ($1,375,000).
